Allentown Teeth Crown - Dr. Michael Kun - Whitehall DentistDental crowns are tooth restorations that are placed over damaged or decayed teeth because the teeth are unable to receive veneers or fillings. Dental crowns are used to restore both the function and strength of teeth.

Similar to fillings and veneers, dental crowns are used when teeth have become damaged or decayed and require repair. To determine which type of cosmetic dentistry restoration is right for you, it is important to schedule an initial consultation with an experienced cosmetic dentist.

If you live in the Whitehall, Pennsylvania area and would like to restore your decayed or damaged tooth or teeth, contact Dr. Kun today. Dr. Kun is a fellow of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced dental Studies (LVI), and has extensive dental crown experience.

Dental crowns come in three different forms: porcelain, metal, and porcelain fused to metal. Porcelain crowns are the most advanced and aesthetically pleasing crowns available because they look and function just like your natural teeth. Metal crowns are created out of gold or other metal amalgam, and while they restore strength and function, they can be unsightly. Porcelain fused to metal crowns can also be used, but over time, the metal portion of the crown can be seen.

No matter what type of crown you choose to have placed, the process for receiving a dental crown is the same, and takes place over a few short visits to Dr. Kun’s studio.

During the first visit, Dr. Kun will evaluate your tooth or teeth, your dental health, and he will then determine which type of dental crown is best for you. During the second visit, the tooth is reshaped to accommodate the crown and a mold is taken of the tooth.

The mold is then sent to a master technician, where your dental crown is custom made for your tooth. This usually takes a few weeks, during which time, you will have a temporary crown in place.

Once the dental crown has returned from the technician, you will return to Dr. Kun’s studio and the crown will be permanently bonded to your tooth, restoring its strength and integrity.
